Travel advice: 6 days in Athens
Day 1
In the historic center, the Acropolis (or Sacred Rock) is the emblematic place for a tourist stay in Athens, with the famous Parthenon and Hadrian's Library.
At the foot of the Rock, continue with the visit to the Acropolis Museum and the oldest theaters in the world: the sanctuary of Dionysus. The museum offers a complete history of the city. Complete this sunny day with good tapas!
Day 2
Odeon
Walk around the Acropolis! Stroll through the flower district of Anafiotika in Dionysiou Areopagitou street in low-cons of the Rock, where you can admire the ancient ruins.
Attend a cultural event at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a few meters from the Parthenon. Finally, to the east of the Acropolis, lose yourself in the historic district of Plaka with its small market and get drunk with Ouzo!
Day 3
We are moving away from the Rock towards the East. The museum of art and history Benaki is divided into 7 parts as temporary collections and exhibitions. The Byzantine Museum is the largest museum in the city with its art collections of Middle Age Byzantine and post-Byzantine.
If you prefer, the Museum of the War of Athens is next and exhibits of weapons from different countries and eras. Continue the ride to Athens National Art Gallery, which houses 15,000 masterpieces of modern Greek art and a large collection of paintings and drawings of several Western European countries. You choose!
Day 4
Olympieion
Opposite the museum and the Embassy of France, the National Garden of Athens is full of sights. This public park of 15.5 ha welcomes, in Syntagma Square, the Greek Parliament, the "Georgia Food Tours" that combines different flavors of Greek specialties, the monument of the Unknown Soldier and the villa Maximos, the official residence and office of Greek Prime Minister.
South of the park is the Zappeion, monument used for official ceremonies. Remember the Panathenaic Stadium. It is the site of the first Olympics! The Olympian Zeus Temple and the archaeological site "Olympieion" is a beautiful place near the historic center. 15 columns of the vast temple are still present today.
Day 5
Start the day with a stroll through the shopping street of Ermou, where Athenians love to come to do their shopping. Take a detour Kapnikarea Church, built in the 11th century, before browsing the famous Monastiraki flea market! Enjoy traditional Greek dishes such as gyros or Pikilia.
A good walk then waits for you to the mythical Temple of Hephaestus, Ancient Agora near the top of the "hill of Ares", the Areopagus. The National Observatory of Athens offers a splendid view of the Athenian capital. In the south, Philopappos Monument is a monument to the top of the hill of the Muses.
Day 6
Piraeus
To the north, climb to the top of Lycabettus Hill before sunrise, you will not be disappointed landscape! Descend to the National Archaeological Museum, before visiting Plato's Academy and the National Library of Greece.
Heading south and the famous Port of Piraeus! Stroll along the sea from the port of Mikrolimano Flisvos beach for a relaxing day. Enjoy a last sunset over the sea while enjoying the Greek salad and typical desserts: baklava, Kataifi, Salami and Ravani!
